History of W. Nuhsbaum, Inc.

In 1981, as a former Leica employee from Germany, Wilfred Nuhsbaum opened a US dealership in the northwest Chicago suburb of McHenry, IL. Originally representing fine Swiss and German brands such as Leitz, Wild, and Bausch and Laumb, W. Nuhsbaum, Inc. joined Leica during a large merger which ushered in the new era of Leica microscopes. While Wilfred has retired from the business he started, the vision of selling quality Swiss and German optics lives on with the current owner/employees at W. Nuhsbaum, Inc.

Through the 35 years of W. Nuhsbaum, Inc., with the volatility in the economy, many of the employees that Wilfred hired back in the early days of business are still with the company today. Dating back to the early 1980’s, the foundation of the business, its employees, have remained loyal including Urs Kuederli, Dave Only, Kevin Ryan, Madeline McClain, and Fred Erdmann. With 19 employees, the current median tenure of an employee is 14 years! The consistency and continuity of the W. Nuhsbaum, Inc. team is a defining characteristic of the company.

With 35 years of experience selling and supporting Leica microscopes in the Midwest, W. Nuhsbaum, Inc. has earned and continues to earn the trust, respect, and loyalty of its customers. The phrase “customers first” is a virtue that has been instilled in every employee at W. Nuhsbaum, Inc, and as the company evolves, that one virtue will remain consistent.
